Pelynt Parish Celebrated Trelawny Day on 30th June. Bishop Trelawny Cornwalls favourite Bishop and son was born at Trelawne Manor in Pelynt and is buried in the family vault below the church. The children from the primary school enjoyed a lively service led by The Trelawny Rev who is Richard Allen. He spoke on the spirit of Trelawny and standing up for what is right. The children sang Cornish songs including Trelawny and Cornwall my Home along with a 100 plus parents. After the service every pupil laid a sunflower on the village Celtic Cross and then ate saffron buns on the way back to school!
Later on Carole Vivien local historian gave the annual Trelawny Lecture based on 4th Baronet of the Trelawny family. This was attended by over 40 guests including 13 direct descendants of Bishop Trelawny. Later on The Trelawny Rev led a short but stirring Trelawny Day service inspiring the congregation to live in Trelawny’s spirit today. Afterwards the Pelynt Male Choir entertained us to a concert of traditional Cornish singing.
