The Benefice of Trelawny

The Benefice of Trelawny in Truro Diocese which covers a coastal area from Polruan to Talland just outside of Looe and inland to Lanreath and Pelynt.

Welcome to Trelawny Benefice

We are a group of five parishes in South-East Cornwall located along the Fowey Estuary from Bodinnick to Polruan, on the coast at Lansallos and Talland and inland at Lanreath and Pelynt. All of our services are characterised by clear bible teaching although our styles of worship are rich and varied ranging from open air family services on village greens and quays to more formal liturgical services including the prayer book.

Richard Allen joined us as Rector together with his wife Harriet in February 2021 after long careers in teaching. They are relishing this new and privileged chapter in their lives. Richard is an evangelist at heart with a real desire to share the good news of Jesus Christ with our communities and has a strong affinity with families and children as well as those on holiday or spending time in their second homes.

A teacher too at heart, he mentors and equips God’s people for works of service. We are actively involved in school’s ministry where the Rector regularly takes assemblies and lessons in our three schools in Pelynt, Polperro and Polruan. We also have a dedicated ‘Open the Book’ Team.

Over spring, summer, and autumn we hold an outdoor service most Sundays on our greens, quays, beaches and barns led often by our worship group with services ranging from rogation, celebrating pets, scarecrows, tractors, horses and harvest of the sea as well as good old songs of praise. We meet weekly to pray around the benefice in each of our churches as well as offering bible study groups.
